Mississippians Stand with Attorney General Jim Hood as Online, 3 Day Petition Shows Strong, Vocal Support in His Fight To Protect Children from Online Threats, Call on Google to Put Children Before Profits

Petition Receives 13,719 Signatures in Just Three Days

February 13, 2015 - In response to Google's legal action against Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood and his investigation concerning Google's promotion of narcotics, steroids and human trafficking, American Values Network launched an email campaign calling on Evangelical Christians in Mississippi to stand with Hood in his fight to protect Mississippi children from online threats. In the three days since American Values Network launched the email campaign, 13,719 Mississippians signed a petition supporting Attorney General Jim Hood's efforts. These numbers are still growing.

"With all the dangers in the world today, parents need help keeping their kids safe. That's why it's so disappointing when, given the opportunity to help protect our Mississippi children and families, Google, a California based company, is choosing not to," said Rev. Greg Harris in the email sent to over 800k Mississippi residents.

In conjunction with the emails, an op-ed was published in the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, also by Rev. Harris.

"Companies like Google should honor the trust we place in them, not sell drug dealers and sexual predators access to our children," said Eric Sapp, Executive Director of American Values Network. "And Mississippi legislators should be protecting Mississippi families, not the California companies putting them at risk."

Since the campaign's launch three days ago, 13,719 have signed the following petition:

As Christians, we support Mississippi's Attorney General Jim Hood in his fight to protect our children from online threats. When bad actors use the internet for illegal prescription drug sales, prostitution and human trafficking, and fraud, corporations like Google should combat these illegal activities rather than profit from their success. We call on Google to be a good corporate citizen, to put our children before profits, and to do everything in their power to stop the dangers that threaten our safety, our children, and families. Our lives matter.
